The applicant must realize that the main and primary purpose of the supporting documents is to confirm and corroborate each and every answer in the application for the UK visa.

Once the applicant understands this, it would be easier to make a comprehensive list of evidentiary documents, based on his or her personal circumstances, which will enable them to support the answers in the application.

The applicant must therefore not merely depend on the list of supporting documents provided by the UKBA website, but should determine, by themselves, the additional appropriate documents necessary to support the application.

ECO-FRIENDLY TIPS - “REQUIREMENTS” separate and distinct from “SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS”

Most Filipinos applying for a UK visa often exchange the term “requirements” with “supporting documents”. The word requirement is often used instead of supporting documents and vice-versa.

To clarify, requirements are the qualifications which the applicant must possess in order to be eligible for a UK visa. On the other hand, supporting documents are the documentary (paper) evidence, filed with the accomplished application form, to prove that the applicant has complied with the requirement.

As an example, in applying for a UK spouse visa, one major requirement is that the applicant must be validly married to the sponsor who is a British national. Thus, In order to establish that the applicant has complied with this requirement of marriage, the supporting document which may be submitted by the applicant is the Marriage Certificate showing a valid marriage between the applicant and the British sponsor.
