For a UK student visa, the most important piece of evidence which must be presented by the applicant is the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies or CAS.
According to ECO-Friendly,the CAS is the evidence issued by the Tier 4 Sponsor (UK university) which shows that the applicant has been accepted to enroll with the said issuing university, after complying with the initial requirements set forth by the university. Not all UK universities are permitted to offer international studies. Thus, a UK university intending to offer international studies must initially secure a license from the UKBA and be listed in the Tier 4 Register of Sponsors as a Highly Trusted Sponsor. Visit this site for the list of UK Universities accredited as Tier 4 Sponsor: www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/employersandsponsors/pointsbasedsystem/registerofsponsorseducation The CAS contains the reference number and personal circumstances of the prospective student. It also indicates all the information about the course of study of the applicant. Upon issuance of the CAS, the applicant has six months to file the application with the VFS-UK Philippines, otherwise the CAS will expire and the prospective student will have to acquire another one. At this point, ECO-Friendly would like to stress that mere possession of a valid CAS is not a guarantee that the UK Student Visa will be approved. It must be noted that the CAS and the UK Student Visa are two separate UK documents and must be applied for separately, and that the CAS is merely a requirement in the application for the UK student visa. Thus, if the application for the UK student visa is denied, the applicant will need to apply for another CAS, since the CAS can only be used and submitted once. MAINTENANCE OR FUNDS The other very important requirement which the UK Student Visa applicant must establish and prove to the ECO is the capacity to finance his or her studies abroad. This requirement is officially referred to as the maintenance or funds. Under the rules, the applicant must show that he or she has sufficient funds to cover the studies in the UK for a maximum period of at least nine months, depending on the course enrolled. In the computation of the amount needed by the applicant, consideration shall be given to factors like accommodation, food, price of study materials such as books and other items which will be used by the Filipino student. Under the new policy of the UK government, incoming international students will have to be fluent in the English language before they can be allowed to enter the UK as a student. According to the new rule, the applicant/prospective student is required speak English at a B2 or Upper intermediate level, instead of the previous passing score of merely a B1 level requirement. Thus, if an applicant cannot be interviewed without an interpreter, the ECO will definitely refuse the application for failure to comply with the minimum requirement. After a major public consultation pertaining to the reported abuse committed by foreign students studying in the UK, the following changes was recently announced by the UK Border Agency with respect to the entrance criteria, limits on work entitlements and the closure of the post-study work route: Aside from the requirement that only Highly Trusted Sponsors will be allowed to admit foreign students and only fluent English speaking student applicants will be allowed entry, the UKBA also listed the following major changes:
