The United Kingdom Visa and Immigration (UKVI) have recently added another requirement to obtain for Philippine applicants planning to apply for the UK Spouse Visa, UK Fiancée Visa and other UK Settlement Visa.
Effective 6 April 2015, all applicants for the UK Spouse Visa, UK Fiancée and other UK Settlement Visa need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge as part of their immigration application.
According to the UKVI website, all applicants who plan to stay longer than 6 months will now be required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
“Migrants coming to work, study or join family members currently receive free NHS treatment in the same way as a permanent resident. The changes, part of the Immigration Act which became law last year, will ensure that migrants make a proper financial contribution to the cost of their NHS care. In England alone, use of the NHS by overseas visitors and migrants is estimated to cost up to £2 billion a year – with £950 million of this being spent on temporary, non-EEA workers and students.
…In setting the surcharge levels, the government has considered the wide range of free health services available to migrants alongside the valuable contribution they make and the need to ensure the UK remains attractive to the brightest and the best from around the world...” The UKVI website said.
With the new rule in place, ECO-Friendly explains that applicants for the UK Spouse Visa, UK Fiancée Visa and any other UK Settlement Visa, as well as the former's dependents will have to pay online before they file the application with the UK Embassy’s receiving office, the VFS-UK-PH.
The website added that, the applicant will, "... be contacted by UK Visas and Immigration if you didn’t pay the surcharge (or didn’t pay enough) as part of your visa or immigration application.
Your visa or immigration application will be turned down if you don’t pay the full amount:
Applicants for the UK Spouse Visa, UK Fiancée Visa or any other UK Settlement Visa should take note of this warning posted on the UKVI website:
"Your visa or immigration application won’t be granted if you don’t pay the healthcare surcharge or your application will be delayed if you don’t pay the right amount." - UKVI
